Submit a Request for DNA-Based Variety Identification Service

Initiate a Request

To initiate a request for DNA-Based Variety Identification Service send an EMAIL to Dianne Velasco at [email protected] and provide the following information:

• Name and address for shipping collection materials and instructions
• The number of plants to be tested
• Background regarding the plants to be tested and the issue you want to resolve
• The service is available only for almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grape, olive, peach, pistachio, plum, and walnut
• The service does not distinguish between bud-sports (aka somatic mutations, clones) within a given variety

We will send an e-mail confirmation and collection material with collecting instructions for standard leaf samples. The collection material is provided as part of the service.

When you receive the collection material:

• Collect the leaf samples according to our standard protocol using the Instructions for Collecting Leaf Samples
• Complete the DNA-Based Variety Sample Submission Form
• Use the same sample names on the Sample Submission Form as on the sample envelopes
• You can submit the Sample Submission Form by email or mail it with the samples
• Review the DNA-Based Variety Identification Agreement

After we receive your sample(s):

• We will complete the DNA-Based Variety Identification Agreement and send it to you for signature.
• New customers will receive an email from UC Davis Supplier Services with directions on how to submit a W-9 Form.
  • If applicable, the Company Name must match the name shown on your income tax return or W-9 Form.
  • Final results will be delayed if the Company Name does not match the name on the W-9 Form or if the W-9 is not submitted in a timely manner.
• Results are typically ready in four to five weeks.
• An invoice will be sent with the results after testing is completed.
