Information about: Clonal Families, Selection Numbers and Registration Status

Graciano [01]
Registration Status Registered
Source California vineyard, reported to be Spanish clone 103
Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 1998 from a California vineyard in Mendocino County. It is reported to be Spanish clone 103 from the EIA Logroño Institute in Rioja, Spain. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Graciano 01 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2002. At the time the original plant material was undergoing testing, FPS created backup vines for Graciano 01 using microshoot tip tissue culture therapy. Those backup vines were also planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard but never received an official selection number. The backup vines successfully completed testing under the 2010 Protocol in 2012. The backup vines will be propagated into the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2013 under the name Graciano 01.1.

The name was changed to Monastrell PLANSEL® 571 in March, 2008, to reflect the PLANSEL clone number and the fact that the selection was proprietary to PLANSEL licensees. The name of the selection was changed to Graciano FPS 08 in July, 2018, after DNA testing at FPS. Graciano 08 was released to the FPS public grapevine collection in 2019.
