Comments The original plant material for this selection came to Foundation Plant Services in the early 1960's from a California vineyard. The material underwent heat treatment for 64 days and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard in 1964. This selection was previously known at FPS as Black Malvoisie 02. The name was changed to Cinsaut FPS 02 in 2004 because Cinsaut is more recognizable internationally and is the TTB-approved prime name.

Comments The original plant material for this selection came to Foundation Plant Services in the early 1960's from a California vineyard. The material underwent heat treatment for 64 days and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard in 1964. In 1997, Cinsaut 02 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS; the treated material successfully completed testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program. The treated plant material was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard as a backup vine for Cinsaut 02. The backup vine never received its own selection number. The backup vine successfully completed testing under the 2010 Protocol in 2011, after which it was planted in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard as Cinsaut 02.1. This selection was previously known at FPS as Black Malvoisie 02. Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 1965 from the former University of California, Foothill Experiment Station, in Jackson, California. At the time, the plant material was called Black Malvoisie (block E5, vine 4). The original material successfully completed testing and was planted in the FPS foundation vineyard in 1966 as Black Malvoisie 03. The name of this selection was changed to Cinsaut 03 in 2004 because Cinsaut is more recognizable internationally and is the TTB-approved prime name.

Treatments Microshoot tip tissue culture therapy
Comments A cooperative effort undertaken by FPS/UC Davis, the General Partners of Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles, Robert Haas and the Perrin family at Château de Beaucastel brought this plant material to Foundation Plant Services in 2004. This Cinsaut selection is unique clonal material that originated from the vineyards at Château de Beaucastel in France. This cultivar is one of a series of Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties included in the cooperative effort. The original Cinsaut plant material tested positive for virus at FPS and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy in 2007. The treated selection was released as Cinsaut 04.1 in 2012.

Comments This heritage clone of Cinsaut was donated to the public grapevine collection at Foundation Plant Services in 2014 by Matt Cline. The plant material was harvested from the Spinelli Vineyard in Oakley, California, which was reportedly planted around 1885. The original material successfully completed testing in 2015 to qualify for the California Registration & Certification Program.
