Comments This material is one of a group of Salt Creek selections that originated from a vine at location H98 v8 in the old Armstrong vineyard on the campus of the University of California, Davis. That vineyard was developed and maintained by the Department of Viticulture & Enology at the university. The vine at location H98v8 was planted in the Armstrong vineyard sometime prior to 1950. Prior to 1961, plant material was taken from the vine at H98v8 and put through preliminary index testing at Foundation Plant Services. The material was subsequently planted as Salt Creek 01A in 1961 in the old FPS foundation vineyard west of Hopkins Road (locations A11 v2-13, 15-21 in the old foundation vineyard). In 1964, eight new selections were created from Salt Creek 01A; each new selection was subjected to heat treatment therapy for a different number of days. All eight selections were given a unique selection number (Salt Creek FPS 02A, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, and 09). FPS Program Manager Curtis Alley labelled for marketing purposes all eight selections and Salt Creek 01A as what he called 'Superclone #128' in the early 1970's - the group was based on the fact that all the selections in the group originated from the same source vine (H98v8).
