Information about: Clonal Families, Selection Numbers and Registration Status

Grüner Veltliner [01.3]
Registration Status Provisional
Comments This clone was imported to Davis in 1939. Dr. Harold Olmo (former Professor, Department of Viticulture & Enology, UC Davis) obtained the plant material from a Professor Moog in Germany. After heat treatment and basic index testing, this selection was planted in the foundation vineyard in 1968 as Green Veltliner 01. The name was changed to the more-correct Grüner Veltliner 01 in 2009. Grüner Veltliner 01 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2011 to qualify for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2013 was planted at Russell Ranch as Grüner Veltliner FPS 01.1. After Russell Ranch vineyard was removed from production, a CDFA R&C nursery reintroduced this material to FPS and it was given the selection number 1.3.

Source Clone A1-2, Riversun Nursery, New Zealand
Comments Grüner Veltliner FPS 02 was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2008 as part of a varietal exchange with Riversun Nursery, Ltd., in New Zealand. The original material was imported with the clone identification as GV 4/13 (more correctly GV 4/143), which reportedly originated from the Burgenland Nursery Association in eastern Austria. That clonal identification has now been changed to clone A1-2. Grüner Veltliner FPS 02 successfully completed disease testing in 2012 and was released from quarantine to the FPS foundation vineyard. The material is the same clone as Grüner Veltliner FPS 05.1.
