Comments | DNA analysis has shown that the 'true' Gamay noir grape is the offspring of Pinot x Gouais blanc (Heunisch weiss), making Gamay noir a sibling of Chardonnay. The berries have pale flesh. There are a number of false Gamays found throughout the world. In California, they include Gamay Beaujolais (a Pinot noir clone) and Napa Gamay (which is Valdiguié). The first true Gamay noir was imported into California in 1973. |
