Comments This big-berried red wine variety is from the Piemonte region in northwest Italy. According to the Vitis International Variety Catalogue, the official name in Italy for this variety is Cari. Pelaverga (Cari) is used for blending with Nebbiolo and/or Barbera or as a varietal wine, as well as for a table grape. Pellaverga (Cari)is not the same variety as Pelaverga Piccolo, despite the similarity in naming.
