Grape Variety: PN40024

Variety Name PN40024
All Synonyms Inbred Pinot noir
Countries of Origin France
Pedigree Multiple generations of self pollination of Pinot noir
Comments The initial research on this variety concluded that it was a genotype produced after several generations of self-pollination of Pinot noir. Bronner and Oliveira (1990) Creation and study of the Pinot noir variety lineage. In: Proc. 5th Intern. Symp. Grape Breeding St. Martin/Pfalz, Germany, Sept. 1989, Vitis, special issue, pp. 69-80. Later publications reported that an outcross to another vinifera genotype might have occurred somewhere in the lineage. More self pollinations occurred thereafter. The variety was imported to the United States for research purposes.

Comments This material was imported to Foundation Plant Services from France in 2008 for purposes of grape genomics research. The plant material is an inbred Pinot noir genotype (PN40024)that was sequenced. The plants came to FPS in the form of in-vitro plants and FPS also performed microshoot tip tissue culture on the plant material in 2012. The treated material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2015.
