The initial research on this variety concluded that it was a genotype produced after several generations of self-pollination of Pinot noir. Bronner and Oliveira (1990) Creation and study of the Pinot noir variety lineage. In: Proc. 5th Intern. Symp. Grape Breeding St. Martin/Pfalz, Germany, Sept. 1989, Vitis, special issue, pp. 69-80. Later publications reported that an outcross to another vinifera genotype might have occurred somewhere in the lineage. More self pollinations occurred thereafter. The variety was imported to the United States for research purposes. |
