The word Agiorgitiko means "St. George's grape". It is believed that the grape variety named Agiorgitiko received its name from a chapel and village in the northeastern Pelopónnisos in Greece. Agiorgitiko is the most widely planted red wine grape in Greece and is associated with the Nemea region. The popular red wine variety is a high yielder and can be made into high quality wine in many styles. |
