Caprettone is a relatively unknown, white grape cultivar from Campania, Napoli, in southern Italy. Caprettone originates from the area nicknamed Caprettone Viuli, on the border with Trecase. Caprettone has in the past been confused with Coda di Volpe Bianca and Caprettone grapes have been mistakenly identified with the name Coda di Volpe. Recent DNA studies have shown that the two cultivars are not related. (Robinson, Harding & Vouillamoz. 2012. WINE GRAPES, p. 185, HarperCollins Publishers). Caprettone is reportedly a very vigorous vine with a high pruning weight ratio and, at maturation, reaches a very high sugar content with good acidity. |
