| Comments |
Elmer Swenson bred this cultivar in Osceola, Wisconsin, in 1962 and released it jointly with the University of Minnesota in 1978. This red-berried American hybrid was bred for growing in cold climates. Swenson Red is an early ripener and cold resistant to ~ -25 degrees. Swenson Red is used mainly for table but is also suited for white or blush wines. Robinson, Harding and Vouillamoz. WINE GRAPES, p. 1020 (2012). |
