This white grape cultivar is indigenous to the Anatolian region of Turkey. In that region, vineyards are planted at high altitudes (up to 4,000 feet above sea level) and temperatures can get as low as -13 degrees F. Average summer temperatures are very high with long daylight hours. Emir grows at high altitudes on volcanic sandy soils and produces wines with strong acidity and flavors suitable for sparkling wine production. Emir has long internodes and is very vigorous. The clusters are reportedly quite large and have moderate sized berries. The cultivar is harvested in Turkey about one month later than Chardonnay. |
