Comments Jancis Robinson indicates (Oxford Companion to Wine, 3d ed.) that this cultivar incorporates every important red wine vine grown in Germany somewhere in its geneology. The reported notable qualities are depth of color and good acidity. It is reported to be an early-ripening red grape.

Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 2011 from the foundation vineyard of the Centre for Plant Health, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in Sidney, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The original material successfully completed testing in 2012 to qualify for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program and was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard as Dornfelder 01.
