| Comments | The National Clonal Germplasm Repository-Davis caused this selection to be transferred to Foundation Plant Services in 2008 from Missouri State University. The variety was imported to MSU from the Research Institute of Viticulture & Enology in Pecs, Hungary. The vines at Pecs from which the material was harvested included the following clones: 5-6/1, 5-6/6, and 5-6/7. Pecs sourced the original plant material from the variety collection at the Uzbek Research Institute for Horticulture, Viticulture & Enology in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. REN1 is the first grape powdery mildew resistance gene naturally found in cultivated plants of Vitis vinifera; the REN1 locus has been prone to producing genetic variation. REN1 is present in Kishmish Vatkana and Dzhandzhal kara, two grapevines documented in Central Asia since the 1920's.
