| Comments | 'Aspro' means 'white' in Greek and that prefix is used in connection with many cultivar names in that area. Although the prime name for this cultivar is given as 'Aspro' on a European database (reference 8), Foundation Plant Services has chosen to use the synonym Xynisteri for its accession to eliminate confusion and provide clarity. Xynisteri is the most common white grape cultivar grown on Cyprus, where it is used for a fortified wine called Commandaria (reference 6). |
