Comments Mavro (or Mavroudi) is a reference to 'black' in Greek, and Mavro/Mavron is the common name of the dominant grape on the island of Cyprus. There are many grapes with the word 'Mavron' or 'Mavro' as part of the cultivar name.

Comments Mavron 01 is one of four Mavron selections sent to Foundation Plant Services in 2008 from the Department of Agriculture, Viticulture & Oenology Section, Limassol, Cyprus. The four selections are all from different source vines. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2009. The treated material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2013 as Mavron 01.1.
