Bon noir is a French cultivar that was developed from a cross between Millardet et de Grasset 101-14 x Knipperlé, made by a private breeder named Eugène Kuhlman. Knipperlé is a white wine grape (with dark berries) that was introduced into Alsace in 1756 and has the same pedigree as Chardonnay (Pinot x Gouais blanc). Jancis Robinson. 2006. Oxford Companion to Wine. Bon noir is reportedly a cold hardy red wine variety with moderate disease resistance. |
