Source CL-35, Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyL), Valladolid, Spain, in 2000
Comments This selection was one of a group of clones that came to Foundation Plant Services in 2000 from the clonal selection program at the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyL), in Valladolid, Spain. The clone number is CL-35 (the original name of the imported material was Albillo Rastrero, which was changed at FPS in 2005 to Albillo Real). The original material successfully completed testing and was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2004. At the same time, a backup vine was created from the original material by way of microshoot tip tissue culture therapy. That treated material also completed testing and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard. The backup vine later successfully completed testing to qualify it for planting in the Russell Ranch Vineyard, where it was planted in 2012 as Albillo Real FPS 01.1.
