Comments The Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) reports the following on the page for Barlinka (Plant Introduction Number 337158): A grape cultivar permitted for wine production in South Africa in terms of the Wine of Origin legislation. A large black grape with a tough skin, it is far better known as a table grape for export purposes. It was imported to South Africa in 1910 from Algeria by the late Professor A.I. Perold. In 1979, there were just over 55 million vines of this variety in South African vineyards, most of them in the Worcester and Hex River areas, where they constitute the bulk of the export table grapes.

Comments This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in August of 1968 from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. It was assigned USDA Plant identification number 337158 upon its arrival. The selection was subjected to heat treatment for 60 days at FPS. The plant material tests positive for Rupestris stem pitting virus.
