Comments In 1949, Dr. Károly Bakonyi launched the breeding of vine varieties that yield white wine at the Department of Horticulture, University of Veszprém Georgikon, in Hungary. Cross breeding of cultivars began in the 1950's. The main aim was the development of Italian Riesling grape varieties tolerant for abiotic and biotic factors, which would ripen early, have high yield, have good sugar formation and produce a wine rich in flavour. The program describes this variety as a high yeilder having a sugar content and acidity higher than Italian Riesling. It is recommended by the breeder as a good base material for sparkling wine production.
