Comments This selection was one of a group of clones that came to Foundation Plant Services in 2000 from the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyL) clonal selection program in Spain. This source of this selection is CL-116, which stands for 'Castilla y León 116'. The original plant material successfully completed testing at Foundation Plant Services for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2002. At the same time that the original plant material was undergoing testing at FPS (2000), backup vines for this selection were created using microshoot tip tissue culture therapy. Those backup vines were planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard without ever receiving an official selection number. One of the backup vines successfully completed testing under the 2010 Protocol and was planted in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2011 as Prieto Picudo 01.1.
