Juan García Selections

Information about: Clonal Families, Selection Numbers and Registration Status

Juan García [01]
Registration Status Registered
Source CL-21, Valladolid, Spain
Comments This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in 2000 from the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyl), in Valladolid, Spain. This selection was one of a group of clones from the ITACyL clonal selection program in Spain. The source material for Juan García 01 is CL-21, which stands for 'Castilla y León 21'. After successful completion of testing for the California Registration & Certification Program, the original untreated material was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2002. At the same time that the original plant material was undergoing testing, FPS in 2001 created backup vines for Juan García FPS 01 using microshoot tip tissue culture therapy. That tissue culture backup material was later planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard without giving it a selection number. The backup plant successfully completed testing under the 2010 Protocol and was planted in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2011 as Juan García FPS 01.1.
