This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 1989 from the USDA/ARS grape breeding program in Parlier, California. The breeder was Dr. David Ramming. Autumn Seedless 01 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2000 after successfully completing disease testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program. At the same time as FPS created the Autumn Seedless 01 vines for the Classic Foundation Vineyard, FPS also created a backup vine for that selection. The backup vine for Autumn Seedless 01 had undergone microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy in 1997, successfully completed testing, and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard without receiving its own official selection number. The backup vine was known as 'FPS group 7542 - BU 01'. The backup vine was tested under the 2010 Protocol and qualified for planting in the new Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where the plant material was installed in 2011 as Autumn Seedless FPS 01.1. |
