This grape is grown in Spain (Rías Baixas region, Galicia) under the name Albariño. It is also grown in Portugal (Vinho Verde region) as Alvarinho. Both names have been approved for use on wine labels in the United States. The selections with this variety name at Foundation Plant Services, UC Davis, have undergone DNA analysis and match references for Albariño and Alvarinho from Spain and Portugal. |
