Comments This grape is grown in Spain (Rías Baixas region, Galicia) under the name Albariño. It is also grown in Portugal (Vinho Verde region) as Alvarinho. Both names have been approved for use on wine labels in the United States. The selections with this variety name at Foundation Plant Services, UC Davis, have undergone DNA analysis and match references for Albariño and Alvarinho from Spain and Portugal.

Source Rías Baixas region (Galicia) of NW Spain
Comments This selection was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2001 by California viticulturist and winemaker Markus Bokisch. It originated from the Rías Baixas region in northwestern Spain. The original plant material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2002. After successfully completing testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Albariño 01 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2008. In 2011, the selection qualified for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard by successfully completing testing under the 2010 Protocol. Albariño FPS 01.1 was planted at Russell Ranch in 2011.

Comments This selection is reported to be from the Morgadillo vineyard in the Galicia region of Spain. It came to Foundation Plant Services, UC Davis, by way of a California vineyard in 2002. The selection underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy at FPS in 2009. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2015 to qualify it for planting at the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard as Albariño FPS 02.1.
