Comments Jancis Robinson reports that, for a long time, it was thought that the origin of this variety was Greek. She notes that recent DNA profiling (Professor Attilio Scienza, Milan University) found no relationship with any known Greek variety. Aglianico is most closely associated in the mountainous center of Italy's south in Campania and Basilicata.

Comments This selection was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2000 by Carlo Mastroberardino, Mastroberardino Winery, in Atripalda, Italy (Campania region). The donor refers to this selection as 'Aglianico del Taburno'. The plant material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2000. Aglianico 04 qualified for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it was planted in 2012 under the name Aglianico 04.1.

Comments This selection was donated to the public collection at Foundation Plant Services in February, 2000, by Carlo Mastroberardino, Mastroberardino Winery, in Atripalda, Italy. The selection was identified by the supplier as 'Aglianico di Taurasi'. Taurasi is a high-quality wine of the Campania region of southern Italy and is produced from the Aglianico grape. The Mastroberardino firm in Atripalda is a long-time producer of Taurasi wine. When the original plant material arrived at FPS, it underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2000. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Aglianico 05 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2008. Aglianico FPS 05 qualified for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard by successfully completing 2010 Protocol testing and was planted in the Russell Ranch Vineyard in 2011 under the name Aglianico FPS 05.1.
