Comments This white grape from Spain is native to Cataluña. The variety is most commonly found in Penedès where it goes into cava blends with Parellada and Macabeo. Two other grape varieties (Viura and Jaen blanco) have a synonym named Xarello. This Xarello grape is not related to either Viura or Jaen blanco.

The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2005. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Xarel.lo 04 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2010. Xarel.lo 04 also successfully completed testing for the 2010 Protocol in 2011.
