Comments This white grape from Spain is native to Cataluña. The variety is most commonly found in Penedès where it goes into cava blends with Parellada and Macabeo. Two other grape varieties (Viura and Jaen blanco) have a synonym named Xarello. This Xarello grape is not related to either Viura or Jaen blanco.

Comments This selection (JPB clone 564) was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2007 by Jorge Boehm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., Portugal. The original plant material for this selection has not been treated. Xarel.lo 02 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2009. The treated material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it will be planted in 2013 as Xarel.lo FPS 02.1.

Comments This selection (JPB clone 565) was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public grapevine collection in 2007 by Jorge Boehm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., Portugal. The original material qualified for the FPS foundation vineyard in 2009. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2008 and successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2014.

Comments This selection was donated to the public grapevine collection at Foundation Plant Services in 2004 by Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., Portugal. The material is JBP clone 563. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2005. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Xarel.lo 04 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2010. Xarel.lo 04 also successfully completed testing for the 2010 Protocol in 2011.
