Comments Valdigue was originally misnamed in California and known as Napa Gamay or Gamay until 1980 when it was properly identified by Pierre Galet. The California grape's identity as Valdigue has been verified by DNA fingerprinting. The name Gamay is no longer allowed on wine labels for Valdigue grapes. Validigue fruit was allowed in wines labelled Gamay Beaujolais until 2007. (Wine Grape Varieties in California, reference #2).
