Source Former UC Foothill Experiment Station, Amador County, California
Comments Traminer 01 was collected by Austin Goheen in 1965 from a vine at the old (abandoned) UC Foothill Experiment Station in Amador, CA. The vine was planted at the station in 1889 as Gewurztraminer, location K2, v13. The vineyard map indicates that the source of the selection in 1889 was a vineyard in Cupertino, CA. That reference is probably to the West Side Santa Clara Valley Station owned by a man named John Doyle. Doyle was a friend of UC’s first viticulture expert Eugene Hilgard. However, “Traminer” or “Gewurztraminer” does not appear in UC experiment station reports describing the Doyle collection in Cupertino in the years 1884-1886.
