Comments This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in 1984 by Dr. Harold Olmo (former Professor, Department of Viticulture & Enology, University of California, Davis) from the Douro region of Portugal. Notes in the FPS file for this selection show synonym references to Baga (the prime name in Portugal for the grape variety Tinta Bairrada) and Poeirinha. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Tinta Bairrada 01 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 1995. Tinta Bairrada 01 successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it was planted in 2011 as Tinta Bairrada 01.1.
