Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in March of 1977 from Paul Truel, Domaine du Chapitre, on the Rhône River near Montpellier, France. The name on the plant material was Valdiguié (Gamay) (USDA Plant Identification number 422383). Subsequent DNA testing at FPS revealed that the vine is Sylvaner blanc. Cuttings were taken from the original vine in July, 2010, and new plants were created for planting in the FPS quarantine vineyard. The new plants will undergo testing at FPS.

Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 1968 under the variety name Sylvaner B8 (USDA-ARS P.I. number 306343). The original plant material was collected in France and sent to the United States in 1965 by Statens Federales d'Essais Agricolas, Domaine du Chateau de Changins, Nyon, Vaud, Switzerland. B8 is a distinct clone of the variety Sylvaner. The name of this selection was changed from Sylvaner B8 to Sylvaner in 2010 to reflect the correct varietal prime name.

Treatments Heat treatment 103 days; microshoot tip tissue culture therapy
Comments This selection was originally collected in France and imported in 1965 from Statens Federales d'Essais Agricolas, Nyon, Switzerland (USDA-ARS P.I. number 306341). The selection was initially assigned the name Sylvaner B2 at Foundation Plant Services. The original material underwent heat treatment therapy in 1967 for 103 days at FPS. After completion of index testing, the selection was planted in the old foundation vineyard in 1968 as Sylvaner B2 FPS 06. In 1999, Sylvaner 06 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy; after successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, the treated material was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2006 as Sylvaner B2 FPS 12. The name of the selection at FPS was changed in 2010 from Sylvaner B2 to 'Sylvaner', because B2 was likely a clonal designation assigned in Switzerland. In Germany, the variety name is spelled Silvaner. FPS maintained the spelling 'Sylvaner' to correspond with the name approved by the TTB.
