Comments	This variety is an old variety that is maintained today primarily for its genetic value. Castelã is still a part of the collection at the Regua Agricultural Station (Centro de Estudios Vitivinicolas do Douro) in the Douro region of Portugal. The synonym name 'Castella' is also used in reference to the unrelated grape varieties Castelão and Tinta Castelloa.
