Comments Godello is a white wine variety native to the Galicia region of northwest Spain. The variety is known in northern Portugal by the name Gouveio. The grape was formerly known as Verdelho in the Dao region of Portugal; however, in 2000 the official name of the variety in Portugal was changed to Gouveio. Godello is not the same as the "true" Verdelho of the islands off the coast of Portugal.
