Péloursin Selections

Information about: Clonal Families, Selection Numbers and Registration Status

Péloursin [01]
Registration Status Registered
Source St. Helena, California, in 2001
Comments The plant material for this selection originated at property of the St. Helena Public Library near Oakville, California. This selection was discovered as part of a project to collect old vine selections for a Petite Sirah planting at the Oakville Field Station. Three types of purported 'Petite Sirah' vines (Durif, Peloursin, and Syrah) were found in the vineyard, suggesting that they might once have been blended into a black variety named field blend that was used a long time ago in the Napa area. The plant material came to Foundation Plant Services in 2001, where it underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy.

Source Stags' Leap Winery, Napa, California
Comments Péloursin FPS 02, 03 and 04 were donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2004 by Robert Brittain, Stags' Leap Winery, in Napa, California. Cuttings from three separate vines were provided to FPS (FPS group numbers 7691, 7692, and 7693). All three selections initially tested positive for viruses and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy in 2007. The treated plant material for Péloursin FPS 02 and 03 successfully completed disease testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program and was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2011. Péloursin 04 was released to the Classic Vineyard in 2012. Péloursin 02 successfully completed testing under the 2012 Protocol and was planted in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard as Péloursin 02.1.

Comments This selection was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2004 by Robert Brittain, Stags' Leap Winery, in Napa, California. Cuttings from three separate vines were provided to FPS; those three selections are now Péloursin FPS 02, FPS 03 and FPS 04. The three selections initially tested positive for viruses and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy. Péloursin 04 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2012. The original material for Péloursin 04 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2007. That treated material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it was planted in 2013 as Péloursin 04.1.
