Comments Garnacha tinta is a variety that originated in Spain, probably in the Aragón region. This variety is known in France as Grenache noir. Separate related varieties include Garnacha erguida, Garnacha gris and Garnacha Peluda.

Comments This selection was one of a group of clones that came to Foundation Plant Services from the clonal selection program of the Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León (ITACyL), in Valladolid, Spain, in 2000. The selection is clone CL-52. The original material successfully completed testing and was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2004. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS and qualified for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2013.

Comments The original plant material for this selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 2007 from Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., Portugal. The material was JPB clone 590. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2008 and qualified for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2014 as Garnacha 02.1. A second tissue culture version from the original material was installed in the Goheen section of the Classic Foundation Vineyard as a backup to selection 02.1. The name of this selection was changed to Garnacha tinta 02.1 in 2017. The FPS vines in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard were put on hold in 2019. The backup selection (Garnacha tinta 02.2, group 9427) remains in the Classic Foundation as of 2019.

Comments This selection was donated to the public grapevine collection at Foundation Plant Services in 2006 by ITACyL in Spain. The clone is CL 55 from the clonal selection program in Valladolid, Spain. The original material completed testing to qualify for the California Registration & Certification Program in 2012.

Comments This proprietary selection was imported to the United States in 2005 by Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel, S.A., in Portugal. The material is Plansel clone 214-4 which was collected from an anonymous nursery in Spain. The selection underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2014 and qualified for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2018. Garnacha tinta PLANSEL® 214.1 was donated to the FPS public grapevine collection in 2019.
