Comments	DNA analysis has shown that the 'true' Gamay noir grape is the offspring of Pinot x Gouais blanc (Heunisch weiss), making Gamay noir a sibling of Chardonnay. The berries have pale flesh. There are a number of false Gamays found throughout the world. In California, they include Gamay Beaujolais (a Pinot noir clone) and Napa Gamay (which is Valdiguié). The first true Gamay noir was imported into California in 1973.

Comments	This clone came to Foundation Plant Services via the quarantine program at Oregon State University in 1987, prior to the initiation of the trademark program for French clonal material. Gamay noir 02 successfully completed testing for California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program in 1988 and was installed in the Classic Foundation Vineyard at that time.

Comments	This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in the mid 1980's from France. It came to FPS as Gamay Beaujolais and is reported to be clone 509. The selection underwent heat treatment therapy and microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS. It was initially released as Gamay Beaujolais 02. In 1996, the name of the selection was changed to'the more correct' name of Gamay noir 05. Gamay noir 05 successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2013 and will be planted there under the selection name Gamay noir 05.1.

Comments	This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in 1995 from France. The original plant material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture disease elimination therapy at FPS in 1996. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Gamay noir 06.2 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2000.

Source	Gamay noir FPS 01, which was from Domaine de l'Espiguette, France
Comments	This selection was imported to the United States in 1973 from the Association Nationale Tech l'Aamel. Viticulture at Domaine de l'Espiguette in France (M.C. Valat). The USDA assigned Plant Identification number 391451 to the accession. The original material underwent index testing at Foundation Plant Services from 1973 through 1975 and eventually qualified for the California Registration & Certification Program. Gamay noir 01 was planted in the FPS foundation vineyard west of Hopkins Road in June, 1976. The selection tested positive for Rupestris stem pitting virus in 1981 and was put through heat treatment therapy for 62 days in 1982. Gamay noir 01 was not eligible for the foundation vineyard due to the RSP virus and was planted in the Tyree Vineyard for a time. Gamay noir 01 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 1999 and qualified for the Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2007, where it was given the new selection name Gamay noir 09. Gamay noir 09 successfully qualified for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2011, where it was planted as Gamay noir 09.1.
