Selections in Family | Vermentino [02.2] [1] |
Registration Status | Registered |
Source | USDA National Clonal Germplasm Repository, Davis, California |
Comments | This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 2007 from the National Clonal Germplasm Repository, Davis, where it is known by the synonym name Vermentino Favorita (DVIT 545 – see also DVIT 1002). Favorita is a synonym name for Vermentino, and that synonym name is used mainly in the Piemonte and Liguria regions of Italy. The original plant material was donated to the NCGR in 1983 by Dr. Harold Olmo (former Professor, Department of Viticulture & Enology, University of California, Davis). The plant material had previously been maintained in the vineyard of the Department of Viticulture & Enology, University of California, Davis, at locations D7:19-21 and X37:11-12. The original material tested positive for virus and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2008. The treated material successfully completed disease testing in 2012 and qualified for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it is named Vermentino FPS 01.1. This selection originated from the same source vine (D7: 19-21) in the Department vineyard as did Vermentino 02. |
