Comments This Portuguese wine grape variety is known for its high acidity and the citrus quality of wines that are aged. 'Arinto Tinto' is not a synonym for this variety. 'Arinto Tinto' is instead one of the Portuguese synonyms for the Spanish grape Tempranillo.

Comments This selection was among 13 unique vine sources sent to Foundation Plant Services for the public collection from the AGRO Ideia Nursery in Portugal in 2000. The nursery collected it from vine 2 of this particular clone in the Quinta da Cortezia vineyard in the city of Aldeia Gavinha, Portugal. The original vine 2 material tested positive for virus and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2000. After successful completion of disease testing for the California Registration & Certification Program, Arinto 01 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2007. Arinto 01 successfully completed testing for the 2010 Protocol in 2011 as was planted in the new Russell Ranch Vineyard under the selection name Arinto 01.1. Arinto FPS 01 (01.1) and Arinto FPS 02 (02.2) were created from two different source vines of the same Portuguese Arinto clone.

The original vine 1 material tested positive for virus and underwent microshoot tip tissue culture treatment in 2000. After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Arinto 02 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2007. The selection was tested using the 2010 Protocol in 2011 and qualified for planting at Russell Ranch, where it was installed in 2011 under the new selection name Arinto 02.1. Arinto FPS 01 (01.1) and Arinto FPS 02 (02.1) were created from two different source vines of the same Portuguese Arinto clone.

Comments This selection was imported to Foundation Plant Services in 2010 by Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., in Portugal. This clone is JPB clone 635 at Plansel. Arinto PLANSEL® 635 successfully completed disease testing in 2012 and qualified for the Classic Foundation Vineyard at FPS. Arinto 635 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2010 to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard. The clone has been proprietary until 2019, at which time it was released to the FPS public grapevine collection.

Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services as a proprietary clone in 2005 from Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel S.A., Portugal. The material was JPB clone 962. The selection was initially known at FPS as Arinto FPS 03 (group 7867). The name was changed to Arinto PLANSEL 962 in 2008 to reflect the number of the PLANSEL clone. Arinto 962 was released to the FPS public grapevine collection in 2019.
