The material underwent heat treatment for 149 days at FPS and was ultimately planted in the foundation vineyard in 1985. Viognier 01 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2011 to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2013 and will be planted at Russell Ranch as Viognier 01.1. |

After successful completion of testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program, Viognier 02 was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2001. The name of this selection was changed from Roussanne to Viognier in 2002 after DNA analysis confirmed Dr. Jean-Michel Boursiquot's opinion that the selection had been previously misidentified. Viognier 02 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2001. The treated material successfully completed testing to qualify it for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it was planted in 2011 as Viognier 02.1. |

At the same time that the original plant material was undergoing testing, FPS created backup vines for the selection using microshoot tip tissue culture therapy. Those backup vines were planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard without assignment of an official selection number. That backup material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard, where it was planted in 2011 as Viognier 04.1. |
