Comments Tauberschwarz is a relatively obscure variety that was rescued from extinction in the 1960’s and is now undergoing a renaissance in Germany. It is cultivated in the German growing regions of Baden and Württemberg with a total of 14 hectares as of 2007. Tauberschwarz is a red variety that produces fruity red, rose or white wines. The variety is interesting from a viticulture perspective as it is winter hardy and has late bud break.

Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in 2012 from Dr. Bernd Hill at Staatliche Lehr-und Versuchsanstalt für Wein- und Obstbau -Referat Rebenzüchtung in Weinsberg, Germany. The variety is reportedly interesting from a viticulture perspective as it is winter hardy and has late bud break. The selection successfully completed testing to qualify for the FPS foundation vineyard in 2013.
