Itchkimar Selections

Information about: Clonal Families, Selection Numbers and Registration Status

Itchkimar [02]
Registration Status Registered
Source Saanichton Plant Quarantine Station, Sidney, B.C., Canada
Comments This selection came to Foundation Plant Services in the 1960's from the USDA Repository, who obtained the plant material from the Saanichton Plant Quarantine Station in Sidney, British Columbia (USDA PI number 588720). Through a misunderstanding, the material was originally (erroneously) thought to be Kishmishi when it came to FPS and was planted in the foundation vineyard in 1964 as Kishmishi 02. Eventually, through ampelographical evaluation and DNA testing, it was determined that that the correct variety was Itchkimar/Itshkimar. Although the material was not available for many years due to a hold for identification, the selection completed testing and received registered status in 2013.
