Comments Elmer Swenson (1913-2004) was a grape breeder from the Upper Midwest who specialized in cold season and short season grapes. This variety was developed by Mr. Swenson in Osceola, Wisconsin. This cultivar has medium to large red fruit and is reportedly cold hardy to ~ -40 degrees F.

Comments This selection was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public grapevine collection in 2011 by Dennis Rak, owner of Double A Vineyards in New York State. St. Croix 01 qualified for the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2013. The original material also underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2011 and successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2014.
