Comments It is believed that Norton originated in Virginia as a hybrid of Vitis aestivalis. Isozyme analysis has shown that the grape known as Norton shares DNA with the grape known as Cynthiana (Am.J.Enol.Vitic., Vol. 44, p.441 (1993)). Norton's berries and clusters are small, and the fruit ripens late.

Comments This selection was donated to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2008 by Dr. Wenping Qiu of the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station in Mt. Grove, Missouri. The material originated from location VFM-145 in the MSU foundation vineyard. The original plant material successfully completed testing for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program in 2013 and was planted in the FPS Classic Foundation Vineyard.
