This variety was developed by Fay Triplett, a grape breeder in Ceres, California. The original Triplett collection is maintained at University of California Kearney Agricultural Center in Parlier, California. UC Cooperative Extension Viticulture Specialist Peter Christensen describes this variety as follows: medium vine vigor with mostly trailing shoots and with a somewhat closed canopy due to the lack of upright shoots; leaves are cordiform, medium-large, medium green on the upper surface and light to medium green on the lower surface; the petiolar sinus is V-shaped; the superior lateral sinus is of medium depth and the inferior lateral sinus is absent to shallow; the leaves have similar characteristics to Grenache, one of its parents; the clusters are medium in size, conical, often shouldered, well-filled and with moderately low rot potential; berries are of medium size and of only moderate color, phenolics and fruit flavors. |
