Comments This old red wine variety from the Republic of Georgia has a distinctive color (deep pink flesh) and acidity. The Republic of Georgia is home to over 500 grape cultivars and the earliest archeological evidence of grape domestication.

Comments This vineyard selection from Riversun Nursery, Ltd., in New Zealand came to the Foundation Plant Services public collection in 2008 as part of a varietal exchange. The plant material for this selection and the one from group 8624 (Vines in Progress) was taken from the same source vine in New Zealand. The original material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2011. That treated material successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2015.

Comments This black wine grape selection was collected in 2010 by Dr. Malli Aradhya of the USDA-ARS National Clonal Germplasm Repository (Davis) from The National Center for Grapevine and Fruit Tree Planting Material Propagation in Saguramo, Mtskheta, Republic of Georgia. The plant material was labeled 'Saperavi 359' when received at FPS. The selection successfully qualified for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program in 2016. Saperavi 05 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2015 and qualified for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2017.
