| Description |
Orig. in Davis, Calif., by the California Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1964. Cross made in 1946 by Guy L. Philp; selected in 1956 by R.M. Brooks; tested as UCD 53-20 by Brooks and W. H. Griggs.
Very resistant to cracking; produces no doubles in most years and very few in years when doubling is a serious problem with Bing and Royal Ann; ripens an average of 6 days after Black Tartarian and 12 days before Bing.
Fruit: sweet; large, averaging 1.02 inches in diam., whereas Black Tartarian averaged 0.89 inches in diam., Bing averaged 0.98 inches in diam.; round-cordate; skin dark red, tender; flesh and juice red to dark red, moderately firm to firm; sweet, mild to tart.
Tree: moderately vigorous; upright-spreading; productive. |
