| Description |
‘John Rivers' is a notable old cultivar (England-1924): although green-skinned and
unattractive, John Rivers’s aromatic sweet flesh and distinctive flavor have stood the test of
time. It’s still a worthy collector’s cultivar.
The John Rivers nectarine (unpatented) was introduced from England by the United States Department of Agriculture, and first planted in California in the early 1930's. Soft flesh which is white in color, it had become a leading commercial cultivar in the State of California largely by reason of its early ripening period to which is in late June in such regions. |
