Description |
Japanese plum
Orig. in Sebastopol, Calif., by Luther Burbank. Introd. in 1929 by Stark Bros. Nurseries & Orchards Co., Louisiana, Mo. Parentage unknown. selected about 1920. Fruit: very large, heart-shaped, very juicy, rich distinctive flavor skin thick, mottled purple and green. Another description of fruit: bronze green skin that turns reddish purple when completely ripe.
Tree: strong and vigorous; hardy to Zone 5.
A favorite for home orchards on dwarf rootstock. Does well in northern, central and inland areas of southern California. Ripens over a 14 day period in midseason.
