Description Orig. at Giessen, Germany by W. Gruppe and H. Schmidt, Justus Liebig Univ., Giessen. Known as the the alternative to GiSelA®5(S) and 6(S). Gaining importance in Europe, especially at sites where GiSelA®6(S) has problems (windy sites and high precipitation). Looked upon as a positive trait, GiSelA®12(S) is less fruitful compared to GiSelA®5(S) and 6(S). Tree is generally spreading and which upon grafting produces a dwarf tree to a significant degree - 55% of a Mazzard seedling. Precocity, high production of fruit and yield efficiency, good fruit size and no or very few suckers. This rootstock produces an open, spreading, stocky tree. Well anchored, requiring less support. Combination with self-fertile cultivars does not result in overcropping; fruit size is enhanced with adapted pruning measures. Besides good winter hardiness, is also adapted to hotter climates. GiSelA®12(S) has been classified as tolerant to viruses PDV and PNRSV.
