| Description |
One
of three dark cherries introduced in 1946 by the Idaho
Agricultural Experiment Station
in Moscow, Idaho, by Leif Verner. It was released because of its resistance
to rain-cracking.
Very susceptible to fruit doubling.
Fruit: sweet; medium to large, averaging less than 1 inch in diam.,slightly larger than parent;, cordate, apex more pointed than Lambert;, suture distinct;, skin blackish-red, moderately thick, tough, separates from flesh, good finish;stylar scar small, oval depressed slightly; flesh tender, very juicy, fine-textured, moderately firm; flavor sweet, pleasing, mild; quality very good to excellent;stone ovate, medium to large; more resistant to cracking than Lambert and comparable to Deacon; ripens with, or slightly after, Lambert; resembles Lambert (more pointed, softer-fleshed and usually larger). The fruit stem
often is attached to the fruit at an oblique
angle. Soluble solids in this cultivar are relatively
low, and the flesh tends to be light red.
The tree does not set as heavy crops as does
'Lambert'. It is somewhat less hardy, although
it is relatively vigorous. Tree: upright; moderately vigorous leaves medium to large, petiole fairly long; glands 1-3, small; bud medium. Does not set excessively heavy crops. |
