Orig. in South Haven, Mich., by Stanley Johnston, Michigan Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1932. J.H. Hale x South Haven; cross made in 1924. Medium to large fruit; round, uniform; skin dark red over most surface. Red at pit, firm, melting, excellent quality. Tough skin stands up to handling and prevents bruising. Sweet and juicy. One of the finest for home use or roadside markets. Excellent for canning and freezing. Trees are vigorous and productive; flowers medium, nonshowy; leaf glands globose; susceptible to brown rot. |
